I had the honor to address you on this matter on the 4th inst. and now beg to enclose follow-copies of the letter and of its enclosures, the copies of my letter to Mr. Wade Gardner, dated the 3rd inst.,
and of my two letters to Hongkong, dated the 28th ult.
As I reported to you in my cable of the 3rd inst.,
Texas Company is asking for an authoritative denial of the statement made to
it by Mr. Wade Gardner of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation
that: "Hongkong Government fuses
definite as this statement is
port and cable facilities any agency in which Sanders, Rehder & Co.Ltd. concerned"; and the Bank, on its own behalf, stated that it "cannot accept responsibility of dealing with shipment (ex Tancred) unless it is in the hands of Reiss & Company," of which I also informed you in my cable.
In view of this, and what reported to you in my letters at present before you, it is obvious that, unless the Texas Company receives the authoritative denial of this extraordinary statement concerning my Company, it will become impossible for us to further handle the Texas business under our contract with that Company, thus allowing the latter to cancel this contract. It is in fact compelled to do so.
